The wood-burning stoves commonly used in rural Nicaragua extract a high price both on the environment and on the family’s health. The majority of the stoves do not have a ventilation system and the smoke accumulates within the house, causing eye and respiratory infections.

St. Peregrin serves 430 boarding and day students. Their main water source is a shallow well with a pump that is shared with the surrounding community that students must travel to daily.
